Title: Perfect Strains May Float
Author: [livejournal.com profile] keefaq
Pairing: McKay/Sheppard
Disclaimer: Just a tool of the patriarchy here.
Word Count: ~4500 words
Spoilers: none
Summary: Rodney knows how to take good care of things.

[livejournal.com profile] zelempa saved this from joining all the other unfinished stories cluttering up my hard drive. She can come up with ideas to jumpstart a stalled story almost as fast as I can steal them. All the better parts of this story came from her. Thanks also go to [livejournal.com profile] neevebrody for helping to clean this up and make it shinier.

Sheppard’s voice was soft and intimate, and it made Rodney shiver to lie in his bed in the dark and talk to him.  )

I hate to keep asking people to beta things for me because it makes me feel like a pest, but I hate worse to have my stories betaed in comments so I'm asking. Anybody have time to look over a couple of short stories, both slash, NC-17, one is about 2500 words, the other about 4500? I'll gladly return the favor anytime; I feel a painful disequalibrium when someone does me favors.

Thought I'd post pictures of my children and grandchildren because, I don't know, why not? I put them in order, oldest to youngest.

Inspired by this:
Thirteen Ways of Looking at Rodney

Based on this other poem by Wallace Stevens:
Anecdote of the Jar

Anecdote of the Laptop )

Gee, I love the way that worked out so perfectly in tune with the theme of the original poem.

Sigh

Bad news: I dropped my laptop on its head one too many times.

Good news: I have a brand new laptop.

Bad news: All the stuff on my old laptop that has to be found moved, copied, reinstalled etc and all the passwords and product keys I can't find.

I have two stories in search of betas. I don't feel comfortable asking anyone directly because, uh, the stories might not be very appealing. One is about 6000 words and it's pretty dominant!Rodney. The other one is about 8000 words and there's a lot of Todd/Sheppard (which just because he's a wraith makes it seem a bit dubious con) mixed in with the McKay/Sheppard.

I'm going to close out my year with my first story rec ever.

I've been hesitant to make this offer because I've noticed a lot of the people around here are smarter and better educated than I am, but English is my native language and if anyone is hard up for beta help I'd be glad to look things over for basic grammar and punctuation, characterization, flow and so on, or just to bounce ideas and plot problems off. I'm familiar with SGA, SG1, Torchwood, Sentinel, Due South, Starsky and Hutch and other stuff I can't think of right now.

I'm not so good with the social networking aspects of lj, so feel free to barge in on me with requests anytime.

"I know very little about some of the people on my friends list. Some people I know relatively well. I read your journals, or we have something else in common and we chat occasionally. Some of you I hardly know at all. Some of you I don't know at all because I didn't friend you back (yet?). Perhaps you haven't been around for long, perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you friended me and I thank you for your interest in my words.

But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so..."

I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal and see what gems of knowledge appear."

So, dear f-list - give me some fun random facts about yourselves!

I'll start: I don't like memes. It's like when I find a greeting card that says exactly what I want to say to someone. I feel like I have to apologize for being trite. But I really would like to know you people.

Would anyone out there be willing to beta a story for me? It's McKay/Sheppard, about 7000 words long. I'm not quite finished fooling around with it, but it should be done soon. I'd really like to have a second pair of eyes go through it before I post it.
