"I know very little about some of the people on my friends list. Some people I know relatively well. I read your journals, or we have something else in common and we chat occasionally. Some of you I hardly know at all. Some of you I don't know at all because I didn't friend you back (yet?). Perhaps you haven't been around for long, perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you friended me and I thank you for your interest in my words.

But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so..."

I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal and see what gems of knowledge appear."

So, dear f-list - give me some fun random facts about yourselves!

I'll start: I don't like memes. It's like when I find a greeting card that says exactly what I want to say to someone. I feel like I have to apologize for being trite. But I really would like to know you people.

I'll go first, shall I?

*I do like memes :D
*I like to draw. Unfortunately, I'm not very good at it.
*I speak 3 languages.
*I sometimes wish I'd taken a class in English literature.
*Teyla's fast becoming my OMG-favouritest character on SGA.

I'm trying to guess the languages. English obviously. French? Portuguese?

English literature features far too many dead white guys in my opinion. I don't have an English degree, and you may possibly have a better grasp of English than I do, but if you need something looked over I'd be glad to do it.

That'd be English, French and Mauritian creole (due to the country I live in) ;)

And thanks for the offer, I may just take you up on that one of these days :)

Hi! ::waves:: I'm Sascha. Married for 11 years, two daughters (one 16 and one 4). Let's see...I'm a secondary ed student who is crazy enough to want to teach English in an innercity high school. Random facts...I've had an essay on Anne Rice's Vampire Ball published in one of her nationally released biographies by George Beahm. I was trained as a classical singer with a range from Soprano I to Tenor II and was often put in the Tenor section to bolster the sound. My favorite books in the whole world are Dune, LOTR and The Eight. I've met Avery Brooks three times and some of my best friends went to Rutgers and had him as a professor. Oh yeah, and your quote from my breastfeeding query was used as the closing statement on my extended breastfeeding thesis. ;)

Is that good? LOL!

I find your life extremely interesting. Evan more so when you compare it to mine.

You're the only person on my fl who doesn't share a fandom involvement with me. Which makes me a little nervous.

I'd like to be an inner city teacher, too, except I'm frozen by anxiety in groups and, oh yeah, I don't believe in public education. But other than that I think it would be fascinating.

Deep Space Nine is my favorite Star Trek.

I'm extremely flattered I said something about breastfeeding that you thought was worth quoting. It's one of those issues that really gets me going.

I believe we're friended through the Sentinel fandom. I haven't been writing fic for long--I only have a couple done, in SGA--but I love recapping and I've done most of the episodes of TS. In real life, I'm a 22-year-old female 9-to-5-office-working curmudgeonly bachelor. Besides fannish thingies, I like 19th century British novels, movies from the 1940s, and novelty songs.

Ha! You're so wrong. I friended you because of Rock Paper(No Scissors), truly awesome story. Then I read your other stories and since there weren't many I started lurking around, eventually read some Sentinel recaps (with great glee), bought the first season and watched it. Watching Season 2 now. It's so bad, and I'm loving it so much. SGA is my first love.

It's really, really bad, isn't it? :D

Thanks! A Sentinel story will be going up after the holidays, but yeah, I'm pretty remiss with my fic'ing.

Let's see -- I hate memes where I have to say things about myself because I can never think of what to say. I'm a 37 yr old married lady with two kids. My younger brother has Down Syndrome and my younger son has autism, so some days my life resembles an afterschool special or an episode of "Life Goes On." When I was in high school my friend and I wrote a truly horrible RPF involving the members of various 80s hair metal bands. I love John Sheppard to the point my kids call him "mommy's boyfriend."

My 10 year old has been diagnosed with an autistic spectrum disorder plus about 50 other things, so I have some idea how that goes.

When I was in Junior High we spent a lot of time making up stories about Chad Everett from Medical Center, a show I can't remember much about. I think there was a lot of emoting and wallowing. I'm thankful it never occurred to us to write the stories down.

I vacillate between wanting to marry Sheppard and wanting to be Sheppard.

Fun random fact: I have an irrational fear of being under water witout holding my nose. I didn't learn how to dive properly until the age of 19 because I was so afraid I'd accidentally inhale water and drown :-)

Oh, you wanted my life's story? It's not very exciting.
- I'm 25 years old
- I almost have a degree in environmental science
- I own a cat
- I have been writing fanfic since before I knew what fanfic was :)

I'm overwhelmed by your willingness to share the intimate details of your life with me on such a short acquaintance. Especially about the cat. That really had me tearing up.

I shall endeavor to underestimate you as much as you wish.

I'm 26, I work as a microbiologist. I have a Master's degree (ahhh bad grad school memories aggghhhhh). I didn't get into SGA fandom until this year, after I went to WisCon (a feminist SciFi convention). I grew up on a hobby farm and was very active in 4-H. :)

Except for buying and reading Star Trek fanzines about 25 years ago, I've had no involvement in fandom until very recently. Started reading Stargate SG1 stories while stuck away from home for several weeks, then started on SGA. All the links to good SGA stories led to lj, so I asked my daughter what lj was and joined up.

Feminist science fiction and feminism in general are big interests of mine. I'd love to go to conventions and meet people, but I get extremely anxious in groups.

4-H is great but membership and participation is declining dramatically. There are just too many things to do and not enough time. It's a shame, but times they are a-changing.

Sorry to hear that! WisCon was a good first convention to go to--very open and friendly, rather bookish and intelligent, and in my own town no less. I met tons of cool people there, and it was a good confidence builder for me. I've stayed in touch with a lot of the people I met there, through LJ.

Agree with you about 4-H. I got so much out of the program; I'm sorry to see it struggling.

Hi! Honestly, I can't remember who friended who first. I liked something you wrote, and I think maybe vice-versa, so we friended. I like short memes, I love storytelling, whether it's through writing, or music, or visual arts...I play a bit in each. I live in the Boston area. I followed a bunch of my favorite writers into the SGA fandom when I was just a lurker. I've only been posting my own stuff for about a year. I'm also dabbling in Torchwood, but I haven't posted anything yet. I'm 41, Wiccan, and I pay my bills working in insurance.

I friended you because of your writing and because you seemed to come on the scene around the same time I did.

I love storytelling too. The stories are what first attracted me to opera though a lot of opera librettos are, um, kind of stupid. But I like the operas with cursed rings and magic potions, heroes and dragons and all that.

I have mixed feelings about Torchwood. I'm a romantic at heart, I guess, and all this seemingly random jumping from bed to bed bores me. I guess I like the show overall since I keep watching it. I haven't read any Torchwood fanfiction that has really wowed me yet, but I'd like to.

Yeah, I've read a handful of Torchwood stories that I've enjoyed, but nothing's really hit me hard yet.

I'm looking forward to seeing what folks will come up with for torchwood_big_bang in the summer
