Gift Request:Type: a drabble Pairing/character/theme/focus: Weechesters, no pairing.

Rating: G

Summary: I don't really know how to do drabbles, so I wrote a tiny story made of three back to back drabbles.

Note: Each drabble is 100 words. Total word count is 300.

Other Kids

Sam is a ball of tight rage but the tears don’t spill onto his face until the Impala stops in front of the playground. Other kids have families who keep their promises, especially this close to Christmas. He can see the racecar game built into the side of the playground bridge where he was going to play today. The freshly painted swings are unoccupied, Christmas vacation is two days away, and the other kids are still in school. Other kids have families that don’t always have to move. It’s just another promise Dean has broken. Holding hands doesn’t fix it.

Other kids come home to soft smelling, Christmas cookie baking mothers in strong standing, fresh painted, warm heated houses. Other kids have Dads who wear business suits and read the papers with their clean stocking feet propped up safe on coffee tables in their cozy carpeted living rooms with warm glowing Christmas trees. Other kids ride in shiny new cars to school every morning and sit with kids their own age for lunch. Bad Dad and Mean Dean don’t care how he feels, Sammy thinks, they never care. He falls asleep tucked angrily into his side of the stupid car.

Sam wakes up to Dean saying, “Please, Dad,” and Dad scowls as he pulls into McDonald’s. He hardly ever lets them eat here. Dean urges Sam to bolt down his food, drags him out into the lightly falling snow on the little playground, and chases him around until Sam forgets to be mad. Sam climbs to the top of the biggest slide, and looks down. Dean’s at the bottom, arms wide, “Come on, Sammy. Let ‘er rip.” Sam pushes off and slides right down to his pancake making, loud singing, cereal sharing, big grinning Dean. Other kids have brothers.
