I've been reading everyone's reactions, and so many good points are being made about what is wrong with all of this, but, I don't know.

I am suddenly possessed of unusually strong hand waving abilities or something because I loved it. Dean's opinion of himself, characterizing himself as nothing but a killing machine. Lisa confirming that Dean is completely wrapped up in Sam. Jared's little expressions, his lying face, so well done. It's quite true that the whole missing soul thing is being inconsistently handled, but that's normal for this show. They have trouble remembering how things are supposed to work in the universe they have created.

I guess the episode suffered from a bit of telling not showing, which is also nothing new for Spn, but that's actually one of the things I tend to like at times. I'm kind of clueless about characters a lot, and I need the anvil for me to get it. I do think the soul missing thing is a bit silly, though. It takes me back to that Star Trek TOS episode, Spock's Brain. Hahahahaha.

The only thing I really didn't like was the beat down at the end. Sam clearly needs help, and while Dean's rage at the way Sam's actions resulted in destroying his relationship with Lisa and Ben is understandable, Dean beating up Sam is never going to sit well with me.

Favorite line: "I love my sister but if she died I wouldn't bring her back from the dead."
Yes, Lisa, Dean is far more screwed up than you are. And why shouldn't he be profoundly, unfixably broken? He has had a horrific life.

I'm enjoying this season so much more than season five, and for the first time, I feel hopeful for my OTP.If Sam is without his soul, of course he is without his Dean love. He cannot feel his soul mate, which excuses him for everything. What better reason could we be given for the whole leaving Dean with Lisa for a year? It all makes so much more sense now.

In short, EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for this! I enjoyed the episode a great deal myself, and have been puzzled by the negative reaction. No, I don't like Sam being soulless, or Dean beating him up at the end, and I don't like that Sad Dean Is Sad--but these are true outcomes of the characters' lives and plotlines so far, and LOVE that the show is staying the course.

I've enjoyed Lisa's stint as someone in a good position to comment on Dean's life. It seems fair at this point to get an outsider perspective on that, and I'm glad they didn't kill her off.

I'm enjoying S6 way, way more than I expected to, after its rocky start. Looking forward to tonight's ep!

Heh. Well, nothing more than what was in the preview and the vast quantity of stuff that Mark Sheppard could exposition his way through!
