I think older fans in a lot of fandoms feel wary about LJ-style fandom even after all these years they've had to get used to it. I would expect they are comfortable with the people they know, and don't branch out much. Also, if I had a career at my age, I'd have very little online time. Did you join fenopause? It is a locked comm, which I rarely join, but for a good reason, and it has a lot of health talk, but some fandom talk too. It's just really nice to hear an older perspective there. It has quieted down lately.
There really are not any comms here on DW that are active, more's the pity.
