Two SPN Vids

erdaI've been wanting to make a list of Supernatural vids and write out some of my thoughts on them for a long time. I had an idea of making a huge masterlist, blah blah blah, but this fandom is so prolific that I was overwhelmed by the task before I even started it. Instead, I thought I'd just put up a couple of vids and do a little mini review now and then. I hope to do a few more posts because there are so many vids I'd like to talk about, but I make no promises.
I'm not a very visual person and I know absolutely nothing about the technical side of making vids, so this is just my reaction as an unsophisticated viewer.
Both of these are Season 4 vids:
Carnival of Rust vidder:absrip
Warnings:manips, Wincest, slightly NSFW
Even I noticed the magnificent use of the red-yellow-orange color palette which unifies this vid. If season one was the spring of Sam 'n Dean, and season two the summer, Supernatural has since been awash in the eternal autumn of the mind, and this vid captures that feeling visually.
The constant zooming in and out on the clips keeps this vid in constant driving, almost frenetic motion. The vidder has found some extremely sensuous expressions on Sam's face, and in fact, this vid is one of the few I've seen that cranks up the animal heat of Sam. The match between the beat and movement of the music and the movement of the clips (there are a lot of obvious ones, I'd like to point out the one of hair movement at 1:16 ) is deeply satisfying to the viewer, so much so that the matching of lyrics falls second, something I've rarely felt when watching a vid, as usually I'm all about the words. Still the lyrics are matched to the clips with just the right amount of subtlety, not so subtle as to be confusing, yet not so obvious as to be boring. Several times the vidder has matched a single word at the end of a line to an extremely apt image. Again there are quite of few of these that are obvious, but I'm particularly fond of the one on the word implication at :43.
The appropriateness of the repeated “Don't Walk Away” near the end of the vid is hauntingly sad, isn't it? Aw, Sammy, I know Dean still loves you. And the final montage of images on the word yearning really encapsulates the emotion I felt at the end of season 4. Actually the vidder has made a case that the emotion of the entire song is an excellent match for the the last half of season four. Do I need to add that the tarot cards are uber cool?

The Mission vidder:monnified
The first step in creating an exceptional vid is choosing the right song, one with both music and lyrics that will stretch the audience without breaking it by careening into obscurity. Obviously different fans have different match points for song choice, but this song falls directly into the center of my zone. The confluence of music and clips as well as lyrics and clips is perfectly done, hitting the non verbal and verbal parts of the brain simultaneously in a way that few vids are able to accomplish.
The vidder has done an excellent summing up of where the show is at right now. I don't know what else to say here. This is genius.

It looks gorgeous, doesn't it. Hee! I've hesitated to talk about vids myself, due to my tendency to not notice things visually, but I've never let ignorance or lack of aptitude stop me from doing other things, so I thought I'd give it a shot.
I think vids suffer from BNFism more than fanfiction does, and The Mission is by someone not well known, hence it's relative obscurity.
