I worked in Special Education and Emotional Support for about six years. I can only say I wish every parent we dealt with (foster and biological) cared even one smidge as much as you do.

Both my mother and I have bipolar disorder (she has psychotic features). I am treated and I do very well. She refuses to believe that there is anything wrong with her so remains unstable and untreated. She refuses to believe that mental illness is exactlt that: and ILLNESS like any other problem. She refuses to believe that the brain is an organ and just as susceptible to disfunction as a pancreas or a liver.

I wish people would recognize that. You are quite on the mark about mental versus physical disabilities. There are a lot of communities on LJ for support if you ever need it. :)
