The internet has certainly destroyed the independent bookseller and my business took a loss last year. Boo hoo.

So this morning I went out to put up the open flag and saw somebody had dumped a bag of truly worthless old bestsellers on the front steps of the shop. So I bring the bag in grumbling to myself about having to pay the garbage man to haul this worthless junk away and then I see about halfway down a Margaret Atwood title I haven't read yet and it's a hardcover, too.  So now I'm happy happy it's a beautiful day and I also notice I have no blurred vision, no double vision, no annoying visual affects that make it hard to read today and I remember to be grateful for that.

Hi there. I met you through [livejournal.com profile] bookshare and wanted to formally say hello. My name is Sascha and I live in PA as well. Your profile sounded incredibly interesting and I thought I'd friend you. Thanks for friending me back.

Whenever I can I buy all my books from small booksellers. I am also a book collector so I put all my "search" orders through a friend who owns a store. I do use the internet, but not too often. I think there is something about shopping in a small bookstore that simply can't be duplicated or substituted. There is a feeling you get from paging through volumes...the smell of the store...the visuals of huge bookshelves. Besides...there is nothing more wonderful than that "find" you weren't expecting! I hope the novelty of the internet store decreases over time and the bookseller is reinstated into his rightful place in the universe. That's where it's at. Cheers!

Hi. I'm new to Live Journal as I'm a bit reclusive so I'm not sure I understand the whole friend thing, but it seems like it can't be a bad idea. I'm in Lebanon, close to you geographically. You seem kind of strange, which to me is a real positive as I get bored with boring people.

I have to admit I buy a lot of books from Amazon myself. It's just the way it is if you want to find a lot of obscure stuff. Plus I'm lazy and I like to hide out in my house with my book pile.

Nice to meet you. Happy Anniversary.
