I'd at least like to have another pair of eyes look over it for any obvious errors, so I'd be grateful for anything you can do. This isn't much of a story, just playing around because I like the pairing.
Everyone else seems to be into Nate/Eliot, though.
You know, back when there was hardly any fic for Teal'c some people suggested it was due to race, but I always felt it was because fandom likes and identifies with geeks. Then Mckay/Sheppard dwarfed Sheppard/Ronon even though the slash hints seemed stronger with the latter pairing, and again I thought it wasn't racism. But now with Leverage I have to wonder at the dearth of Alec/Eliot, which seems to me to be the most likely slash pairing. Have you noticed that?

I'm conflicted on the whole issue. First off, I love Nate/Eliot and the first Leverage fic I wrote is that pairing. I wrote Alec/Eliot and I like it too--that's not unusual for me, hell I like Rodney/Ronon, so... When I made the Leverage page at fanlore I put in something about the number of fics at geteven_getfic in each pairing, they were about equal at that time, and they're about 60/40 now. There are now pairing comms starting up, which makes judging things hard.
I think race is an issue, I think it always is, but it's not the whole story. Canon pushes the Alec/Parker and that's cool too, so pairing Eliot and Nate is a nice fit. There's things to be said with a Nate/Eliot story you can't say with an Alec/Eliot, and vice versa of course. I also like the idea of writing for a guy Nate's age.
I will honestly say I hesitated a bit over writing Hardison. I'm not American, race issues in Canada are dramatically different, and canon provides nothing for his past beyond a couple of comments. I did a lot more backstory imagining and research than I ever do for what was essentially a PWP.
I think it's not always racism, but fear of Doing It Wrong at play. One thing I took away from the whole Race Fail '09 thing, was that trying and failing, going back and "failing better", beats the hell out of a fandom whitewash, and is just good advice anyway.
That'll learn you to get me started on a topic like this.
Anyway, shoot me the story--my email is facetofcathy@gmail.com. Or if you have google docs, you can share it that way--whatever works. I'm happy to do a typo/grammar check and I'll tell you what I think of the story, but I'm not one to tell someone what or how to write.
Oh, and if you want to post at Geteven_getfic, they have moderated membership, so you have to plan for time for the join request to go through.
I'm excited that you're writing Alec/Eliot! And re: the above comments . . . I used to try to pretend that the dearth of Teal'c or Ronon or Gunn fic wasn't about race, but then I saw Gus (on Psych, also a big dorky geek) and Alec get sidelined, and I felt retroactively different about those earlier characters of colour, y'know?

I wish some really good writers would embrace this pairing, cause it wouldn't take much to move me into Leverage fandom.
